We are now into the final few days of the summer transfer window and this is where things can get really exciting. The Premier League has already provided plenty of blockbuster signings but there’s still time for some last-minute deals to get over the line before fans can turn their full focus to the 2023/24 season.

Both Wolves and Aston Villa remain active names on the transfer rumour mill, so let’s take a look at the latest headlines for the Midlands clubs.

Wolves eye Arsenal star

Arsenal defender Rob Holding has emerged on Wolves’ radar as a potential last-minute signing before Friday’s deadline. According to Football Insider, Gary O’Neil’s side have emerged as suitors for the out of favour centre-back after he was given the green light by the Gunners to move on this summer.

Holding has fallen down the pecking order under Mikel Arteta and he is one of several players who Arsenal are looking to cash in on as part of their squad trimming. Wolves do face competition from Crystal Palace though, and Real Betis are also in the race for the 27-year-old’s signature. Holding has entered the final 12 months of his contract and Arsenal are said to be looking for a permanent transfer now rather than a loan deal.

Liverpool ‘discuss’ Aston Villa midfielder

One of the biggest ongoing stories of the transfer window is Liverpool’s pursuit of a whole new midfield. Having lost the likes of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho, the Reds are floundering to bring in replacements and one man who has been mentioned is Villa’s Douglas Luiz.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Liverpool have discussed the idea of signing the Brazilian but they are yet to make any official moves. The Reds were also interested in Luiz last summer and even offered £20 million for his services.

“Douglas Luiz is a name that has been discussed internally by Liverpool. I’m not aware of any movement at this point,” he told GiveMeSport. “I think that it’s crystal clear that Liverpool wants to add between now and the end of the window if the right name becomes available.”
