Wolves may reportedly reignite their pursuit of West Ham defender Craig Dawson this winter. The centre-back was on their radar in the summer but a move to Molinuex didn’t happen in the end.

However, as detailed in a report by The Athletic, he ‘could come back into the frame’ next month. Julen Lopetegui, who was chosen as Bruno Lage’s replacement, is preparing for his first transfer window at the helm.

Dawson, 32, is out of contract at the end of the season and is due to become a free agent in June 2023 unless the Hammers can cash in on him in January or can agree terms for a new deal. He remains a regular for David Moyes’ side but still faces an uncertain long-term future at the London Stadium.

He has played for West Ham since 2020 and initially joined them on loan from Watford before his switch was made permanent. The former England youth international has made 84 appearances in all competitions to date and has chipped in with nine goals in all competitions.

Snapping up Dawson would be a shrewd addition for Wolves if they were able to land him. The former Rochdale and West Brom man is a vastly experienced player in the Premier League and would strenghten their defensive department ahead of the second-half of the campaign as they look to climb away from trouble.

Lopetegui’s side picked up an important three points on Boxing Day after beating Everton 2-1 at Goodison Park. Next up for the Midlands outfit is a home clash against Manchester United on 31st December.
