An intriguing valuation of former Wolves ace Morgan Gibbs-White could see his old side pick up some cash this summer.

Wolves could be looking at a summer pay day following a recent valuation claim regarding former player Morgan Gibbs-White.

The 25-year-old made the eyebrow-raising move to Nottingham Forest in 2022, following the East Midlands side’s promotion to the Premier League. Forest splashed a club record fee of £25 million on bringing Gibbs-White to the City Ground, making him their 16th signing of the window.

“This has been the hardest decision of my life but one I felt I had to take at this stage of my career. It hurts to leave but it's time to take on a new challenge,” the midfielder posted on social media at the time.

Express & Star broke down the deal at the time, including the smart add-ons and clauses Wolves had inserted into the negotiations.

Wolves could land extra pay day for Gibbs-White after huge valuation

E&S reported in 2022 that Wolves received a base fee of £25 million for the sale of Gibbs-White, rising to £35 million based on appearances and starts at Forest.

There was an initial 15 percent sell-on clause of any profit added to the deal but that only stood for the first year following his exit. After that, it dropped to a 10 percent share of any sell-on profit.

The full potential amount Wolves would earn from the Gibbs-White sale was quoted at £42.5 million, which seemed unlikely at the time, as the remaining cash relied on Forest qualifying for European football. Initially, many laughed off this idea, especially after the Reds suffered back-to-back relegation struggles. However, the Reds are on track for a sensational top four finish this season, which ‘would get Wolves all of the money’ quoted, according to E&S journalist Liam Keen.

Now, according to talkSPORT, Nottingham Forest have valued Gibbs-White at a mammoth £100 million, following reported interest from Manchester City. The 25-year-old has been instrumental to Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, so their enormous asking price is likely an attempt to scare off any lurking rivals. However, should a club meet Forest’s valuation, Wolves would snag a nice pay day to boost their own summer funds.

If Forest do cash in for the £100 million, Wolves will see 10 percent of the £57.5 million profit come their way, according to the previous breakdown of the sell-on clause.

Morgan Gibbs-White summer interest

As Forest close in on a European place next season, they are setting their sights on exciting summer transfer targets. However, their own players are also attracting attention and Gibbs-White is one of the biggest talking points.

Premier League champions elect Liverpool have also shown interest in the impressive midfielder. It was reported back in January that the Reds were keeping tabs on Gibbs-White as their midfield continues to be an area to improve on.

However, Liverpool’s attack and defence has become more important areas to focus on, and it seems unlikely they will spend £100 million on a midfielder while they are scoping out a potential move for Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak.
