Wolves could beat Crystal Palace, Leeds United & Southampton to midfielder amid Matheus Nunes blow
Thursday morning rumblings from Molineux.
Wolverhampton Wanderers could snag Swansea City midfielder Flynn Downes for a cut-price deal this summer as the Welsh side look to boost their financial status ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.
According to WalesOnline, the Swans are after a few reinforcements of their own but without seeing one or two go out, that won’t be a possibility.
This in turn could see them accept an offer below his original valuation which was said to be around £11-12million and with Wolves obviously not pushing the boat out this summer, could prove a perfect move.
The black and gold are among a number of Premier League clubs including Crystal Palace & Southampton whom are looking at the 23-year-old whilst a report from the Times [via WalesOnline] back in April also stated that Leeds United were keeping tabs on the Englishman.
Downes enjoyed an excellent season in the Championship last year, making 39 appearances in all competitions, providing one goal and two assists.
Nunes says no to Wolves?
Elsewhere and Portuguese newspaper O Jogo have delivered some bad news in regards to Wanderers’ pursuit of Matheus Nunes.
The outlet state that despite Wolves having the funds on the table to complete the signature, the player himself is offering ‘some resistance’ to a move.
They claim that the 23-year-old is holding out for a move to a Premier League club ‘of a superior level’ and that he doesn’t see Bruno Lage’s side as fitting into that category.
This all comes as Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim remains desperate for any move to be ‘aborted’ so that he can count on the midfielder for at least one more year in the Portuguese capital.
If there’s any substance in this at all, Wolves would be much better off pursuing other targets and could instead move on to the aforementioned Downes, beating their other rivals to the punch before it’s too late.
