Wolverhampton Wanderers have already enjoyed an astonishing recovery under Julen Lopetegui but the progress isn’t over yet as Wolves are hoping to go further still.
Multiple new signings are expected as Wanderers attempt to gain some much-needed squad depth heading into the 2023/24 season.
No additions have been confirmed so far, but there are plenty of rumours swirling around with just a few weeks to go until the Premier League’s opening weekend.
With that in mind, here’s what Wolves’ starting lineup could look like for the 2023/24 campaign if the most concrete rumours are true.
1. GK: Daniel Bentley
Clawed the starting spot from Jose Sa a few times at the end of last season and could well do so again with the Portuguese rumoured to be off to Nottingham Forest.
2. RB: Matt Doherty (in as free agent)
Wolves are closing in on a reunion with the Irishman following spells at Tottenham and Atletico Madrid. Will offer healthy competition for Nelson Semedo and should start.
3. CB: Victor Nelsson (in from Galatasaray)
Following the departure of Nathan Collins to Brentford, Wolves are reportedly keen on signing Galatasaray defender Nelson, who is worth £20m. Tottenham are also interested.
4. CB: Max Kilman
Likely to start ahead of Craig Dawson in order to have a left-footer in the XI. He was sensational at times under Lopetegui and has gained interest from Napoli.
