He was dismissed for violent conduct after appearing to kick out at Hatters defender Tom Lockyer while the pair remained on the ground following a coming together.

The incident occurred in the 39th-minute when the game at Kenilworth Road was goalless.

Referee Josh Smith immediately showed the former France under-21 international a red card - a decision that was upheld after a VAR check.

Bellegarde, who made his debut in the 3-1 defeat to Liverpool last weekend, will serve an automatic three-match ban if Wolves decide not to appeal the decision.

That means he’ll sit out Tuesday’s visit to Ipswich in the EFL Cup, along with the Premier League games against Manchester City and the derby-day visit of Aston Villa to Molineux on October 8

.Influential midfielder Rodri will also sit out the Wolves v Man City game on September 30 after he was sent off in the Citizen’s fixture against Nottingham Forest. He, too, was dismissed for violent conduct after grabbing former Wolves midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White by the throat. City went on to win the game 2-0 despite being reduced to 10 men.

Wolves netted after Bellegarde saw red, with Neto scoring his first goal of the season on 50 minutes.

Luton responded, though, 15 minutes later from the penalty spot thanks to Carlton Morris.

The game finished 1-1 as Gary O’Neil’s side picked up just their fourth point of the season.
