Talks are progressing for Wolverhampton Wanderers to land a significant deadline day signing.

Wolves have reportedly submitted a deadline day bid to sign Red Star Belgrade defender Nasser Djiga.

Vitor Pereira is eager to add quality and depth at centre-back, boosting the defence further following the £16.6 million acquisition of Emmanuel Agbadou from Reims earlier in the transfer window.

Djiga, who played every possible minute for Red Star in the eight Champions League outings this season, has emerged as a late target. The eight-time Burkino Faso international only signed for the Serbian Super Liga club for £2.5 million in the summer but he could depart swiftly in what would be a significant deal.

Serbian publication Mozzart Sport reports Wolves have officially lodged a bid of €12 million (£10m) to sign Djiga, while Give Me Sport correspondent Ben Jacobs has confirmed just that. The report from Mozzart Sport states it’s a record bid received by Red Star in what is described as a historic moment for the club.

It awaits to be seen if Wolves’ bid will be accepted but talks are at an advanced stage. Pereira has given the green light for a transfer to progress and it’s hoped a resolution can be sought before tonight’s 11pm deadline.

The Old Gold shouldn’t get too comfortable with their swoop, however, as fellow Premier League club Nottingham Forest are interested in signing Djiga. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are said to be keen on investing in a long-term replacement for Murillo, who has been linked with a host of top European clubs.

Wolves will be desperate to avoid a repeat of the Kevin Danso saga as they looked set to sign the Austrian international from RC Lens but Tottenham Hotspur hijacked the deal. A full agreement was reached for Danso to join on loan and a medical was even booked but Spurs swooped in to sign him instead.
