Wolverhampton Wanderers have added a Southampton target to their January transfer shortlist.

The Old Gold are reportedly interested in signing RC Lens centre-back Kevin Danso this winter to reinforce their weakened defensive line.

As Gary O’Neil pointed out on several occasions before being sacked, Wolves are in dire need of a new central defender with both speed and physicality. Danso, who is enjoying a fourth successive season as a regular starter for Lens in Ligue 1, could fit the powerhouse bill.

Wanderers aren’t the only club in need of reinforcements, though, as fellow relegation battlers Southampton could do with adding to their back line. Ivan Juric is expected to arrive as the new head coach to succeed Russell Martin and he’ll no doubt be keen to address a few key issues this January.

French publication L’Equipe reports Wolves and Southampton have both added Danso to their shortlist ahead of the upcoming window. It’s claimed Lens are ready to sell and would consider bids in the region of €25million (£20.8m).

Such a fee would represent quite the risk for both the Old Gold and the Saints but investment is a necessity if you want to perform a miracle escape from relegation. Signing Danso wouldn’t immediately fix either club’s problems but his arrival would probably help matters.

It awaits to be seen if the 26-year-old would prefer a move to Molineux or St Mary’s but it’s worth mentioning he’s already familiar with Southampton having spent the 2019/20 season on loan. It wasn’t the most successful campaign as Danso played just six times in the Premier League but his stock has risen considerably since then.
