'Contacts started' - Fabrizio Romano issues major Wolves and West Ham transfer update

The Old Gold are engaging in informal conversations with West Ham over the potential sale of Maximilian Kilman, though it’s understood Wolves are highly reluctant to let their captain leave.
New West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui, in his first managerial role since leaving Wolves last summer, is determined to be reunited with Kilman at London Stadium. Lopetegui gave the centre-back the armband for the first time and enjoyed a strong few months as Wolves soared out of relegation reckoning and reached the 41-point mark in 2022/23.

Hide AdLopetegui wants to replicate that success at London Stadium, promising Kilman the chance to be a mainstay in a team challenging for European football. It’s now claimed that Lopetegui’s desire is being acted upon as West Ham have made their first move upon the opening of the summer window.
Transfer news journalist Fabrizio Romano reports the Hammers have formally expressed a concrete interest in Kilman by contacting Wolves. It’s set to be a complex deal as Wanderers are desperate to keep hold of their star defender, but talks are claimed to be underway nonetheless.
Wolves’ stance on Kilman could change amid West Ham talks
It’s not the most ideal timing as Wolves are one of several clubs struggling with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations - and a sale could be necessary. Teams must not make a lose of more than £105 million over a three-year period, so any significant funds gained can act as great relief to any concerns.

Gary O’Neil has had virtually no funds to play with over the last two windows. Wanderers’ head coach was desperate to sign a new striker in January as the threadbare squad caused issues but Wolves simply couldn’t afford to step out of line.

Hide AdKilman has played 151 times for Wolves since signing on a free transfer from Maidenhead United in 2018, scoring three and assisting three over that period. Rather crucially, the 27-year-old played every single minute of the 2023/24 Premier League season, proving his reliability throughout a campaign ravaged by injuries.
