Wolverhampton Wanderers have reportedly entered the race to sign Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Steven Alzate before the Premier League transfer deadline day on Friday.

Gary O’Neil’s side are set for a flurry of activity late on in the window with deals for Enso González and Santiago Bueno close to completion – but they’re not done there, it appears.

Following the £25.8 million signing of Carlos Baleba on Tuesday evening, Brighton are now willing to let out-of-sorts midfielder Alzate depart the club and Wanderers have been alerted.

BBC Sport reports Wolves are keen on signing the Colombian but will face fierce competition for his signature with Everton, Sevilla and Fiorentina all lining up to make a late deal happen.

Alzate, who spent last campaign on loan at Belgian Pro League outfit Standard Liege, has occasionally made his mark for Brighton but has always been more of a utility option.

Signed from Leyton Orient in 2017, the 24-year-old, who can play anywhere in midfield or at right-back, doesn’t appear to ever be set for a major breakthrough at the Amex Stadium.

Another loan move could potentially suit but with just 10 months left on his Albion deal it wouldn’t come as a surprise if he was allowed to leave on a permanent deal – and for a cut price.
