‘The Brazilian Pedri’ - Wolves and Brighton race to sign €15m wonderkid amid Arsenal ‘talks’

Transfer news latest as Wolves, Brighton and Arsenal fight to sign a player dubbed the ‘Brazilian Pedri’.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly interested in signing highly-rated Corinthians midfielder Breno Bidon but face competition from a host of top clubs in the Premier League and across Europe.

The Old Gold are expected to part ways with the Birmingham City-linked Tommy Doyle this summer and head coach Vitor Pereira is on the hunt for a replacement. Bidon, a current Brazil Under-20 international, is reportedly among the shortlisted targets.

Brazilian publication UOL Esporte reports Wolves have made an official approach to Corinthians to enquire about Bidon’s availability. The 20-year-old is said to be valued at around €15 million (£12.8m), putting him well within Wanderers’ budget.

Wolves not the only team interested in Bidon

Unfortunately for Wolves, they’re not the only club to have registered an interest in Bidon as the report from UOL Esporte suggests Arsenal, Brighton & Hove Albion, Sporting Lisbon and Benfica have all been in touch recently. Of those, the Gunners are said to have the most advanced interest with talks already progressing.

Given Bidon’s rapid progression over the last two seasons, it’s no surprise that so many clubs are interested. There are bound to be plenty more than those mentioned, too, meaning Wolves face a tricky task trying to land his signature.

How would Bidon fit in at Wolves?

As much as it’s ambitious to suggest Bidon would sign for the Old Gold over the likes of Arsenal and Brighton, there are two reasons he may choose to head to Molineux. Firstly, he would fit in superbly with the Brazilian contingent as he’d slot into midfield alongside fellow countrymen Andre Trinidade and Joao Gomes, while promising right-back Pedro Lima is also on the books.

Then there’s the fact that Bidon has already worked with Pereira, albeit briefly, as Wolves’ head coach was Corinthians manager back in 2022, when Bidon was first breaking through as a serious prospect. Although the midfielder was still two years out from making his senior debut, he was beginning to show what he was capable of in Corinthians’ under-20 side.

It can sometimes be tough for foreign young players to immediately become starters in the Premier League, but Bidon shouldn’t take too long to adapt as he has been a regular starter for Corinthians for the past two years. In that time, the hot prospect has racked up 70 appearances across Brasileiro Serie A, Copa do Brasil, Campeonato Paulista, Copa Sudamericana and Copa Libertadores.

In terms of play style, Bidon is a good all-rounder suited to the number eight role. His incisive passing has particularly caught the eye, and as has his ball-striking in the final third. He could, therefore, rotate in for the likes of Gomes and Marshall Munetsi.

As mentioned in some recent analysis from Ben Mattinson, Bidon has been widely likened to Barcelona superstar Pedri by fans in Brazil. Now, that’s quite the bold comparison to make, but Bidon’s very Spanish-esque play style backs that up.
