The Premier League relegation race went down to the final day of the 2022-23 season in dramatic fashion as just one of Everton, Leicester City and Leeds United could survive the drop.
The Toffees had the advantage as a win would guarantee their survival, whereas Leicester needed to win and see Everton lose.
Leeds, on the other hand, faced a huge uphill battle as they had to beat Tottenham Hotspur and see both Everton and Leicester defeated.
As it was, the Foxes did get the win they so desperately wanted but Sean Dyche leading his side to a narrow 1-0 victory over AFC Bournemouth was enough. Leeds were thrashed 4-1 by Spurs.
Southampton, who had been down and out for a few weeks ahead of the campaign’s finale, have been joined by Leicester and Leeds as the teams going down to the Championship as a result.
Due to the quality of the squads that have dropped, there are plenty of players who will no doubt be departing the three clubs this summer.
Wolverhampton Wanderers are just one of a whole host of sides who could look to poach stars for cut-price fees due to relegation clauses and the outright desire for individuals to leave.
With that in mind, we’ve put together a list of the 15 most realistic players Wolves could target in the transfer window, with a couple of more audacious shouts.
1. James Ward-Prowse (Southampton)
Recently an England international, everyone knows Ward-Prowse’s capabilities – especially on set pieces. Has been Saints’ captain and arguably their best player for years. Aston Villa, Newcastle and West Ham have been linked and Wolves are ‘in the fight’ according to recent reports.
2. Robin Koch (Leeds United)
Plenty of top clubs are linked with Koch as there’s undoubtedly talent there, he just didn’t have the right surroundings at Elland Road. Likely to be available for under £20 million and could be some coup.
3. Jonny Evans (Leicester City)
Perhaps not the most exciting name on the list based on current ability, but could do a similar job to Craig Dawson at Molineux. Will be leaving Leicester on a free unless a late move is made to extend his stay.
4. Kyle Walker-Peters (Southampton)
Nelson Semedo has been heavily relied on by Lopetegui and Wolves will likely be in the market for a new right-back for competition and cover. Walker-Peters would be a very good option to fill that role.
