The astonishing Premier League ‘timewasting’ figures & where Wolves, Chelsea and West Ham rank - gallery

Which Premier League clubs have ‘wasted’ the most time from goal kicks during the 2022/23 season?

Wolverhampton Wanderers can often slow things down to try and see out games, with goalkeeper Jose Sa often seen taking rather a while to distribute the ball.

That of course was not the case for the 6-0 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion recently, but three successive defensive shutouts have been kept at Molineux.

Sa was seen delaying the play in order to hold on to a lead in those particular wins over Chelsea, Brentford and Crystal Palace.

It’s one of those dark arts that you love to see from your own team but hate to see from others – a bit like having a player who torments opponents, you could argue.

But how do Wolves’ time-wasting figures compare to the rest of the Premier League, including the likes of Chelsea and West Ham United?

We’ve taken a look at data provided by OPTA on the average time it takes each team to restart play from a goal-kick – and there are some astonishing figures.
