Wolverhampton Wanderers have slapped a hefty price tag on captain Maximilian Kilman amid interest from Premier League rivals West Ham United.

The Old Gold are determined to keep hold of their star defender but concede every player has their price in the transfer market.

This is particularly the case in the current climate as several clubs are struggling to comply with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations (PSR). Teams must not make a lose of more than £105 million over a three-year period, so any significant sales can act as great relief to any concerns.

Wolves are one of the sides to have been most affected as Gary O’Neil has had virtually no funds to play with over the last two windows. Wanderers’ head coach was desperate to sign a new striker in January as the threadbare squad caused issues but Wolves simply couldn’t afford to step out of line.

West Ham are keen to tempt the Old Gold into a significant sale this summer, knowing adding huge funds to the transfer kitty could be too tempting to turn down. Daily Mail reports the Hammers are considering making an official approach for Kilman as new head coach Julen Lopetegui is a huge admirer.

The demands of Wolves could be too high, however, as Kilman is valued at around £45 million by the West Midlands club. It awaits to be seen if West Ham will be willing to spend that much but Lopetegui has already given the green light.

The Spaniard, who managed Wolves between November 2022 and May 2023, made Kilman captain for the first time. The pair enjoyed a strong few months to soar out of relegation reckoning and reach the 41-point mark – an extraordinary achievement given just how far down in the doldrums Wanderers were beforehand.

Lopetegui wants to replicate that success at London Stadium, promising Kilman the chance to be a mainstay in a team challenging for European football. Wolves could eventually offer that but the immediacy at West Ham may prove too alluring.
