Wolves player ratings from Tottenham draw as three score 'emphatic' 8/10s but one 4

Wolves got off to a dream start as Hwang, a surprise starter, broke the deadlock after just eight minutes with a curled effort from range. Tottenham fought back valiantly to go 2-1 up through goals from Rodrigo Bentancur and Brennan Johnson but an 87th-minute beauty from substitute Jorgen Strand Larsen rescued Wolves a dramatic point.
Hwang wronged his doubters with the opening goal as he whipped in off the post from 20 yards, converting after a clever short free-kick from Andre and Rayan Ait-Nouri. The lead lasted merely four minutes, however, as Bentancur levelled up the scoring with a bullet header from a Pedro Porro corner.

Hide AdAndre and Craig Dawson were wrong-footed by Bentancur’s run and the finish was unstoppable, condemning Wolves to their 17th set-piece goal conceded this season. That nearly became 18 just a dozen minutes later as Radu Dragusin leapt highest from another corner, but the Romanian’s header glided a few centimetres wide of the far post.
Wolves looked a threat on the transition but Jose Sa and the three central defenders in front of him looked in trouble whenever Spurs pressed high – and that was more often than not. Old Gold hearts were in mouths every couple of minutes as Heung-min Son, Dominic Solanke and Johnson sprinted relentlessly as Wolves passed precariously out from the back.
Spurs were on the ascendancy before the break and took the lead in first-half stoppage time through Johnson, who fired in beyond Sa following a clever one-two with Dejan Kulusevski. The goal, to go 2-1 up, came as a great relief for the home support after captain Son missed a penalty a few minutes earlier; Sa dived superbly down to his right to deny Son after Andre had tripped Johnson to give away a stonewall spot-kick.

Pereira made two changes at half-time - one of which came as a huge surprise - as Jean-Ricner Bellegarde and Matheus Cunha were replaced by Goncalo Guedes and Strand Larsen. Wanderers had the better of possession as the second period progressed but Tottenham snuffed out their threat for the most part, sitting in a little deeper than usual. The affair turned cagey and stop-start as several fouls and an injury for Andre stopped Wolves from building any real momentum.

Hide AdSpurs, revitalised by a host of attacking substitutions, eventually settled into a rhythm themselves and looked the more likely team to score. Solanke missed twice from close range - one a slide at the far post and another a header - while Kulusevski saw an attempt cleared away by Santi Bueno after rounding Sa, who rushed out a little late.
But then, effectively out of nowhere, Wolves struck back to make it 2-2. Ait-Nouri notched his second assist of the match with a wonderful reverse pass in behind, setting away Strand Larsen who finished emphatically, somehow squeezing the ball into the roof of the net from an acute angle. The Norwegian striker, lifting his side with his seventh league goal of the season, very nearly had a brave three minutes later but his header was saved by Fraser Forster.
Pape Matar Sarr then had a huge chance down the other end to turn it back around for Spurs as he ran onto a Kulusevski cross but the midfielder’s close-range header missed the target. In a game that really could’ve gone either way, the points are shared in north London.
Player ratings
Jose Sa - 7
Saved Son’s first-half penalty with a great dive low to his right but made two errors in the second period, first rushing out late and being dribbled past by Kulusevski and then nearly gifting a chance with a disastrous touch well outside his area in stoppage time. Couldn’t do a great deal about either goal conceded.
Nelson Semedo - 5

Hide AdCouldn’t make much stick as he gave away possession regularly. Took quite the whack after a collision with Bentancur but battled on. Booked for a trip on Solanke just before the interval.
Matt Doherty - 6
Struggled a little to deal with runs in behind from Solanke and Son but chipped in with his fair share of tackles and interceptions.
Craig Dawson - 6 (off 78’)
Could’ve done better to defend the corner for Bentancur’s goal but did relatively well to deal with the constant pressing from Spurs’ forwards.
Santiago Bueno - 6
Made an important clearance to stop Kulusevski making it 3-1 but looked rather unsettled every time he was pressed.
Rayan Ait-Nouri - 8

Hide AdAssisted both Wolves goals, the first with a clever lay-off and the second with a pin-point through pass. Deserved the goal involvements as he provided decent width down the left and caused a threat whenever taking on his man.
Andre - 4 (off 68’)
Gave away the penalty with a sloppy foul on Johnson and was another who perhaps could’ve done more to stop Bentancur’s run for Spurs’ equaliser. Played his role in Hwang’s goal but it was merely a short pass. Taken off with an injury.
Joao Gomes - 6
Chopped in with several aggressive tackles to regain possession for his side but lost his man - Johnson - for Spurs’ second goal.
Jean-Ricner Bellegarde - 6 (off at HT)
Often boxed Udogie in with some excellent pressing from the front but failed to display much creativity. Booked for a tactical foul on Kulusevski.
Hwang Hee-Chan - 8 (off 78’)

Hide AdCame in for a surprise start and repaid Pereira’s faith with a stunner to open the scoring.
Matheus Cunha - 7 (off at HT)
Dropped deep as per usual to initiate attacks as Wolves’ talisman. Saw a 25-yard effort fizz narrowly wide. Taken off at the break, perhaps with a knock but that’s not certain.
Subs:
Jorgen Strand Larsen - 8 (on at HT)
Scored a thrilling equaliser late on, striking perfectly into the roof of the net from a difficult angle. Got in some great positions, providing an effective outlet up top.
Goncalo Guedes - 7 (on at HT)
Wasn’t afraid to take on his man and added real impetus to attacks. Defended well from the front.
Tommy Doyle - 5 (on 68’)
Dispossessed far too easily on two occasions, one of which set Spurs away on a dangerous counter.
Carlos Forbs, Rodrigo Gomes - N/A (on 78’)
Didn’t have long enough to receive a proper rating.
