Wolves have reportedly made a transfer enquiry to Getafe about their centre-back Omar Alderete.

Eduardo Burgos, a journalist for Diario AS, said in a post shared on Twitter on Tuesday morning that Wolves have made an enquiry to Getafe about Alderete but there is nothing concrete. La Liga giants Atletico Madrid also have him on their shortlist as a 'low-cost option' and he is well respected by the club from the Spanish capital.

Alderete is a Paraguyian centre-back that in September plans to become a Spanish citizen, which would free up a non-EU spot for Getafe. He has been with Getafe for the last two seasons, initially joining on loan before signing a permanent deal.

He is 27-years-old and is under contract at the Estadio Coliseum until the summer of 2028, after joining from Hertha Berlin for a reported £3.36m. The six foot two centre-half currently features in the plans of Getafe manager José Bordalas after playing the entirety of their 1-1 draw with Athletic Bilbao on Thursday.

Alderte has been capped 20 times for the Paraguayan national team, and is a compatriot of Enso González. He was included in Paraguay’s squad for the 2024 Copa America, and played in all three of their group stage matches.

Wolves and Atletico Madrid aren’t the only teams to have been linked with Alderte. In July, reports from Paraguay claimed that Alderte was a reported target for Villa's Premier League rivals Everton and Sevilla. Rudy Galetti, a self proclaimed transfer market expert also said that Real Betis and Galatasaray had been keen, and that Sevilla had held talks with his representatives in May.

A centre-back remains the priority for Wolves, and Burnley defender Dara O'Shea seems to be their priority, but they face competition from Brentford for his services. The report from Spain does suggest nothing is 'concrete' and so Wolves seemingly have their sights set on O'Shea, but Alderete could be an option if a move for the Republic of Ireland international fails to materialise.

In the build-up to last week, Gary O’Neil spoke of his desire to recruit players that are ‘Premier League ready’ whilst also trying to find assets. Alderte has only played Spain and in Germany, which are the third and fourth best leagues in Europe, and so whilst he hasn’t experienced the top-flight of English football before, he could be regarded as a player that is the standard of a Premier League footballer.
