A Wolves defender could line up at the home of English football on Sunday after receiving a late call-up.

Matt Doherty has received a late call-up to the Republic of Ireland squad despite his lack of first-team minutes for Wolves.

Doherty wasn't included in the original squad list but a series of injuries has meant a few tweaks to Heimir Hallgrimsson's squad. Seamus Coleman, Adam Idah, and Shane Duffy had to withdraw and they've been replaced by Jake O'Brien, Doherty, and Ryan Manning.

The 32-year-old made his first appearance for Wolves in over eight weeks when he came on a a substitute for Rayan Ait-Nouri in stoppage time against Southampton at the weekend. The right-back was left out of Hallgrimsson's squad for their October matches, but will now prepare himself for their Nations League double header with Finland and England.

Ireland are bidding to avoid the drop from League B in the Nations League, and a win against Finland would do that. They face the Finns on Thursday, November 14, and then finish their camp at Wembley Stadium against England on Sunday, November 17 at 5.00 pm.

To date, Doherty has 47 appearances for his country, and has two goals to his name. He's never played at a major tournament for Ireland, having not made the squad for EURO 2016.
