Wolves stunned United on Boxing Day as Matheus Cunha’s goal and assist earned the Old Gold all three points on Pereira’s Molineux managerial debut.
The new manager has made quite the impression already, leading Wolves to victories in each of his two matches so far – the other being last weekend’s 3-0 triumph away at fellow relegation battlers Leicester City.

Hide AdCunha’s opening goal against United - shortly after Bruno Fernandes was sent off - was a beauty as the Brazilian curled into the net directly from a corner. There was a lot of debate as to whether it was purposeful or accidental but Cunha has since confirmed it was planned all along.
When asked whether he’s ever scored directly from a corner before, Cunha told Amazon Prime Video: “It’s my first time. We were training a lot. He [Pereira] said to me, kick at the goal and we’ll try to manage the goalkeeper. We did it well and I’m so happy.
“I was shooting, yes, we were training that – we did one in the first half and it was saved but the second one I had the luck to score the goal.”

Already Wolves’ star man under Gary O’Neil and continuing his fine work under Pereira, Cunha is quickly gaining a reputation as one of the Premier League’s most exciting attackers. A few eyebrows were raised when Wolves paid £45 million for the 25-year-old’s services but he’s more than lived up to that price tag.
