Wolverhampton Wanderers have been given a huge boost ahead of the 2022/23 campaign with influential midfielder Ruben Neves now expected to stay at Molineux ‘for at least another season.’

The Portuguese maestro was heavily linked with a move away from the West Midlands at the beginning of the transfer window with Manchester United, Arsenal and even Barcelona touted as likely destinations.

However, talk on a potential transfer has quietened in recent weeks and journalist Pete O’Rouke claims that the 25-year-old is now ‘set to stay’ with Bruno Lage’s men.

Speaking to news outlet GIVEMESPORT, O’Rourke said:“They’ve obviously kept Joao Moutinho and it looks like Ruben Neves is set to stay at Molineux for at least another season.

“So again, that’s big news for Wolves there to keep those two midfielders.”

The black & gold have failed to add to their midfield ranks so far this summer so keeping Neves would be as invaluable as any major signing.

Joao Palhinha opted for a move to Fulham and Mattheus Nunes continues to be unclear about his future so if the latter does remain a no go, it becomes pivotal that Wolves keep hold of their main man.

Neves has been in fine form so far in this pre-season alongside veteran Moutinho and will be hoping to continue that when he and the rest of the squad take on Turkish giants Besiktas on Saturday evening.
