Lopetegui braves six changes in FA Cup - Wolves predicted starting XI gallery v Liverpool

Here’s how we predict Wolverhampton Wanderers’ starting lineup to look against Liverpool in the FA Cup on Saturday evening.

Wolverhampton Wanderers return to play on Saturday evening to face Liverpool in the FA Cup third round, just three days after their 1-1 draw at Aston Villa. Julen Lopetegui and his men dominated proceedings for most of the West Midlands derby at Villa Park but they were unable to hold on for all three points.

Daniel Podence opened the scoring thanks to some quick feet and an exquisite far-post finish but experienced striker Danny Ings equalised late in the second half. Wolves remain in the Premier League relegation zone with the draw, but there has been a clear improvement under the new manager.

The Wanderers will take confidence from their recent displays as they head away to Anfield, though head coach Lopetegui is unhappy with the way the fixture schedule has panned out. “We have to play against Liverpool in three days when they’ve had two days more,” Lopetegui said after the Villa clash. “I’m sorry, but I don’t understand this. I don’t know why,” Lopetegui continued.

Liverpool have been far from their best this season as they are well off the pace and effectively out of the title race, but they remain a very difficult side to face. The Reds were surprised by Brentford on Monday as they lost 3-1 in the English capital and Jurgen Klopp will be eager to put things right with a better showing on Saturday.

As is the nature of playing five times in 15 days, and with survival in the Premier League taking priority, Lopetegui will likely rotate his side heavily. Here is our predicted Wolves starting XI for the game.
