A former Wolves promotion winner has been drafted in by Portsmouth to aid their bid to return to the Championship.

Lee Evans - who was a key figure for Kenny Jackett’s 2013-14 League One title-winning campaign - has joined the Fratton Park outfit on a free transfer until the end of the season, following the mutual termination of his Ipswich Town contract.

The midfielder has been brought in by the south coast side to bolster their ranks following a series of injuries that could potentially derail their promotion ambitions. John Mousinho’s side are currently seven points clear at the top of League One with 11 games remaining but have 10 first-team players currently unavailable for selection.

Evans, who spent five years at Molineux following a £200,000 move from Newport County in 2013, has joined Pompey following a period of rehabilitation after undergoing knee surgery in October. The Blues will be hoping to call upon his vast experience at third-tier level, having also helped Wigan and Ipswich clinch promotion back to the Championship.

The 29-year-old made 28 appearances for Jackett during that historic 2013-14 season that saw Wolves smash the 100-points barrier. The Wales international registered 21 Championship appearances for the club the following season but was loaned out to Bradford and Wigan before sealing a £750,000 move to Sheffield United in January 2018.
