Former Wolves midfielder Jack Price has signed for Shrewsbury Town on a short-term deal until the end of the season.

Price was born in Shrewsbury and played for Wolves’ academy team from the age of seven. He was given his first professional contract 10 years later in 2011, and was one of a number of youngsters to make their first team breakthrough in the 2013/14 season as Wolves cruised to the League One title with an emphatic 103 points.

The 31-year-old racked up a total of 115 appearances for The Wanderers between 2011 and 2018 and established himself as a cult hero with supporters due to his work-rate and commitment to the team.

However, he became an increasingly peripheral figure in the team following the appointment of Nuno Espirito Santo and played just five times in the first half of the season as Wolves lifted the Championship title.

Price went on to establish himself as a fan favourite in the MLS with Colorado Rapids - making 123 appearances for the team and replacing Tim Howard as the club captain.

During his time in the USA, he became renowned for his tremendous passing ability and eclipsed David Beckham’s set piece assist record with (11) in a single season in 2019.

Price was blighted by injuries in the final months of his stay with Colorado and his contract expired in October 2023.  The midfielder has been out of action for several months with a ruptured achilles, but has now confirmed his return to first team football with a Shrewsbury team battling to survive in League One.

The Shrews are seven points clear of the drop zone as it stands and Shrewsbury boss Paul Hurst is backing him to make the difference. He told the club website: “Jack is coming back from a long-term injury but we believe his quality could play a part for us in our remaining games.

“He’s been out for a long time. He is not suddenly going to be playing 90 minutes. But whether he is starting, or more likely coming off the bench, the quality Jack has can help us.”

Price will hope to make Croud Meadow debut this weekend in a match against bottom club Carlisle United.
