Former Wolves midfielder Jack Price has made a return to English football after six years away in the United States.

The 31-year-old has signed a short-term contract with League One outfit Shrewsbury Town until the end of the 2023/24 campaign. Price's move to the New Meadow is subject to international clearance having last played in the Major League Soccer.

He has been training with the Shropshire outfit since it was announced in October that he would be leaving Colorado Rapids. Price ruptured his Achilles and to help get him back to fitness he has been training with the third tier outfit.

“Jack is a player that has played at the highest level," said Paul Hurst on the official club website when commenting on Shrewsbury's newest arrival.

“He is coming back from a long-term injury, but we believe his quality could play a part for us in our remaining games.

“He has been working on his fitness with us for the past few months.

“I’ve watched how he’s been around the place, the way he conducts himself, the way he communicates - and you can tell there is a respect there from the rest of the players.

“We do have to mention he has been out for a long time. He is not suddenly going to be playing 90 minutes.

“But whether he is starting, or more likely coming off the bench, the quality Jack has can help us."

Price is an academy graduate at Wolves and spent 17 years of his career at Molineux. He made his first-team debut in the 2013/14 season, helping the club win promotion from League One with Kenny Jackett. The Shrewsbury-born midfielder would have loan spells at Leyton Orient and Yeovil Town the following campaign.

He forced his way back in to the first-team picture at Wolves, and went on to make 115 appearances. In January 2018 however he ended his association with the club by moving to the Colorado Rapids. Price spent six seasons in Colorado and appeared 130 times for them.

Shrewsbury Town have been active in the free agent market as of late. They signed Rayhaan Tulloch who was released from his contract at West Brom on Deadline Day last month. They had been interest in signing Nathan Fraser, who was at the New Meadow on New Year's Day, but the failure to land a striker meant that he remained at Wolves.
