Emiliano Martinez has backed a potential move to Wolves for fellow goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

The Argentine has put any rivalry that exists between Aston Villa and the Old Gold to one side and encouraged the Arsenal stopper to make the switch to Molineux.

Martinez believes the move would be good for the 26-year-old England international, who has lost his place in the Gunners’ starting XI to David Raya.

Ramsdale has been linked with a season-long loan move - with a £25m obligation to buy clause - after making just five Premier League appearances for Mikel Arteta’s side last term. Southampton have also been credited with an interest in the former Sheffield United and Bournemouth keeper as they look for a replacement for Gavin Bazunu who is out injured until 2025.

However, Martinez - who himself left the Emirates in search of first-team football in 2020 and joined Villa for £17m - is of the opinion that Wolves would be a good option for the player.

The Villa Park No1 told The Mirror: "When you play every game in the Premier League and then you drop to the bench with the quality that Aaron has… I think he should find a place to play where he feels loved. I heard he might go to Wolves, which I think could be a good move for him.

"He is a player that England needs in their goalkeeping area. He still has a great future."

Wolves entertain Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday, with Jose Sa once again expected to start in goal for Gary O’Neill’s side. Meanwhile, Martinez comes up against his former Arsenal team-mates today at Villa Park, with the Gunners v Villa kicking off at 5.30pm.
