Hide AdWolves will receive a record £62.5 million transfer fee as United have activated the release clause inserted in the new contract Cunha signed back in February. The Old Gold will be devastated to lose their talismanic forward but have grown to accept Cunha’s departure as an inevitability over recent months.
Liverpool, Arsenal, Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa were among several other Premier League clubs interested in signing Cunha but United have acted quickly to try and get their priority attacking midfield target over the line ahead of their rivals. Barring any late changes, the Red Devils will secure their man and Cunha will become a United player on June 1.
Signed from Atletico Madrid for £44 million in July 2023 after an initial six-month loan spell, Cunha has been an extraordinary player for Wolves. The 25-year-old has racked up 90 appearances - more than he has for any other club - and scored 33 goals for the Old Gold, also contributing 15 assists.
This season has been particularly strong from the 13-time Brazil international as he has scored 15 and assisted six in 31 Premier League outings. Cunha got Wolves out of trouble on so many occasions during their torrid first half of the season and he’s continued his fine form throughout the revival under new head coach Vitor Pereira.

Hide AdIt will be very difficult to replace a player of Cunha’s calibre, but Wolves will at least receive a huge boost to their transfer budget. Pereira was able to sign Emmanuel Agbadou, Marshall Munetsi and Nasser Djiga in the winter, but he’s yet to have a full summer to properly make his mark on the squad.
The upcoming window could be pivotal for Wanderers as they seek to move up the Premier League standings next season. The English top tier is getting all the more competitive every single campaign and Wolves will need to conduct smart business if they are able to move forwards under Pereira.
