The Portuguese forward scored the second in Benfica’s 2-0 win over Dynamo Kyiv on Wednesday evening and Schmidt was asked about his future at the club following the match.

“When we see him play, we feel that he loves playing for Benfica, as you can see.”

Football is a business and therefore we cannot be sure what will happen.”

Up until recently The Saints looked to be the team in pole position for the 21-year-old but following Wolves’ recent record move for Matheus Nunes, the gold and black have now stepped up their search for a forward and could act quickly to jump in line.

TalkSPORT reported as early as today that all three Premier League clubs remain in the frame, with transfer correspondnent Alex Crook adding the following:

“Three clubs mentioned in the Portuguese media; Newcastle, though I’m not convinced are going to see through their interest, Wolverhampton Wanderers who I know are certainly tracking the player although I don’t believe they’ve gone as far as holding talks, and Southampton who are the interesting name in the frame.”
