'Getting desperate' - ex-Aston Villa star drops Wolves score prediction ahead of Tottenham clash

Wolverhampton Wanderers travel to Tottenham Hotspur as they hope to turn things around in the Premier League

The pressure is beginning to build already on Wolverhampton Wanderers. Five straight defeats and Vitor Pereira’s side could be just a couple of bad results away from a crisis as they look to continue an eight-season stay in the Premier League.

With the busy winter period fast approaching, October clashes with Sunderland and Burnley are already beginning to look potentially season-defining. The fact Pereira has recently been handed a new three-year contract only makes the next few matches even more crucial, or else the ownership will have a major decision on their hands.

Next up for Wolves is a difficult trip to Thomas Frank’s Tottenham Hotspur, who are joint-second with 10 points from five matches under the Dane thus far. They also beat Villarreal 1-0 in their opening Champions League fixture and had a strong summer transfer window, meaning their status as one of the easiest teams to beat in the Premier League last season is likely to be firmly behind them.

Chris Sutton predicts Tottenham result for ‘desperate’ Wolves

BBC Sport pundit and former Aston Villa striker Chris Sutton has given his view on this weekend’s set of Premier League fixtures. He predicted another defeat for Wolves in north London, though only by a narrow score-line of 1-0.

“Things are getting desperate for Wolves after five straight defeats in the league, but it is hard to make a case for them getting anything here,” said Sutton. Tottenham showed great resilience to come back late on to rescue a point at Brighton last week. They have got that side to them now where you feel they can get something from games, even when things go wrong for them.

“I was at their Champions League win over Villarreal when they huffed and puffed but still got the job done. This game might not be entirely straightforward for them either, but I am expecting the same outcome.”

Sutton was predicting the weekend’s fixtures alongside UK rappers Kidwild and Blanco, the former of whom is a Spurs fan. Kidwild predicted his side to win 3-0, while Blanco predicted a 2-0 victory for Spurs. AI predicted the same outcome as Sutton.

Everton victory in cup will give Wolves fans hope

While Wolves’ Premier League form has been abysmal so far, there was cause for celebration in the Carabao Cup in midweek as the Old Gold beat Everton 2-0 at Molineux to set up a fourth-round tie at home to Chelsea. Marshall Munetsi and Tolu Arokodare scored the decisive goals on the night, the latter with his first since joining the club for £23 million from Genk.

With the Toffees now beaten in the competition in addition to West Ham United in the second round, Wanderers have demonstrated that they are still capable of beating teams at this level. A change in formation to a back four also seemed to work wonders. At the final whistle on Tuesday, Pereira called for his side to translate their performance that night into the Premier League.

He said: "Now for the players, the new players, the time for adaptation has finished. This is time to perform and time to help the team. With two or three good results we can play at another level, for sure.

"The work I watch everyday in training is hard work and this is a group who work a lot, they compete and want to be at a better level. We're just missing the results because the players have quality. I'm happy for my players because I missed their smiles and the smiles of the supporters."
