Wolves star Ruben Neves has been backed to leave Molineux amid continued transfer speculation.

The Portuguese midfielder has now been at Wolves for almost six years having joined the club in 2017, and he has been linked with an exit regularly over the last couple of years, in particular. Neves will be in the final year of his contract from this summer, and a number of clubs are being linked with a move.

Arsenal and Liverpool have been linked with a move, while Spanish giants Barcelona have also been tipped to make a move. In the meantime, the 25-year-old continues to work relentlessly in the heart of Wolves’ midfield as the club battle for Premier League survival under Julen Lopetegui.

At the end of this season, Wolves will have a decision to make if they cannot tie Neves down to a new contract, likely needing to sell the Portugal international to avoid losing him for free the following summer, or potentially on the cheap in Janauary. As Wolves scratch their heads over the situation, Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville has been speaking about Neves’ talent and his future.

“It’s interesting that you should say about Neves, he’s been at Wolves quite a long time,” he said during Friday’s coverage of Wolves’ clash with Fulham on Sky Sports. “I genuinely believe that Ruben Neves could go and sit in any midfield in Europe in any team in any league and be comfortable.”

That verdict won’t come as a surprise for Wolves fans, who have seen Neves’ class over recent years. Ultimately, it may come down to the midfielder’s ambitions, given he is not likely to win silverware at Molineux any time soon. It will also come down to who actually expresses interest, given clubs have resisted making offers in previous transfer windws, despite being heavily linked with bids.
