Former Wolves man training with League Two side after Swansea City exit

Development emerges regarding ex-Wolves man

Former Wolves defender Ryan Bennett is training with Grimsby Town.

The 32-year-old parted company with Championship side Swansea City at the start of the month.

He spent the past two years on the books of the Welsh club but is now weighing up his next move in the game.

Grimsby boss Paul Hurst has revealed he is training with the Mariners, as per BBC Humberside Sport:

“I spoke to Ryan, I think it was last week and had a chat about him coming to train with us. I don’t have an issue with that, I kind of made it clear that sometimes it might be with the first-team and sometimes it might be with the youth team.

“He would just like somewhere to train rather than being in the gym.”

While he's predominantly played as a right-sided centre-back, Bennett has also played across a back three at former clubs Wolves and Leicester. The 32-year-old made 18 Championship appearances last season before being released by Swansea.

Wolves days

Wolves swooped to sign Bennett back in 2017 and he helped them gain promotion to the Premier League in his first year at the club under Nuno Espirito Santo.

He injected useful experience into that team and went on to spend the next couple of years with the Midlands outfit in the top flight before having a brief spell away at Leicester City on loan.

Bennett played for the likes Peterborough United and Norwich City before his move to Molinuex.

The Orsett-born man started his career at Grimsby and is now back with his former club as he looks to keep us his fitness levels.

He has racked up 433 appearances in all competitions, chipping in with 18 goals from defence.
