Next Everton manager: Former Wolves & Leeds United bosses among favourites as Frank Lampard sacked - gallery

The latest favourites to become the next permanent Everton manager according to odds after Frank Lampard was sacked – including former Wolves and Leeds bosses.

Former Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Nuno Espirito Santo is among the early favourites to become the next Everton manager - as is ex-Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa - after Frank Lampard was relieved of his duties on Monday. Lampard, widely regarded as a Chelsea and England legend as a player, really struggled with the pressure at the helm at Goodison Park, particularly this season.

Down in the Premier League bottom three with four defeats in their last five matches, Everton are deep in a relegation battle. Things are looking bleak for the Toffees, who have managed just three wins and have suffered 11 defeats in 20 matches so far this term.

The nail in the coffin for Lampard was a 2-0 loss in a relegation six-pointer away at David Moyes’ West Ham United. The clash was handed the nickname ‘El Sackico’ by many as both managers were on the brink. Moyes may have just earned himself a little more time, but Everton owner Farhad Moshiri finally lost his patience with Lampard.

With a break of a week or so until The Toffees’ next game - at home to table toppers Arsenal - it feels a good time for a change of manager. It gives the club enough thinking space to recruit the right man for the job without too much of a rush. Ex-Burnley boss Sean Dyche is the bookies’ number one favourite as things stand, but Nuno, who helped Wolves to promotion, is not too far down the list. Nor is Bielsa.

See below for the latest odds for ‘next permanent Everton manager’ - as of 3pm on Monday, January 23.
