At the full-time whistle, supporters in the away end voiced their displeasure at the performance. Clips circulated on social media showing them ferociously booing O’Neil and the players, before directing ‘sacked in the morning’ chants to their manager.

Jordan, known for being upfront and honest about his views, admitted that in his role as a pundit, he would often have to be critical. The 57-year-old admitted however that he along with the Liverpool fans chanting at Pep Guardiola on Sunday, that he didn’t condone the ‘sacked in the morning’ chants.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Jordan said: “There's a part of me that understands implicitly and explicitly the fans have a right to air their views, they pay their money, but there's also another part of me that dislikes it intensely. You know, people want to make the comparison of stupid fans of certain sections of the Liverpool fan base.

“They want to make comparisons that certain people have been singing, you know, you’re getting sacked in the morning. You were singing about another team's football club.

“Your own fans singing to you perhaps is their right, perhaps it is their prerogative.

“I just don't like it. I know we can be critical in this show and we can hold people to account and I know that I say things that often are of the critical nature. But I never like to hear a pile on. I never like to see somebody being on the receiving end of it.”

At the moment, O’Neil remains in the hot seat at Molineux. He is due to take the press conference today at 1.00 pm ahead of their trip to West Ham United on Monday.

Jordan praised him for how he took on the job from Julen Lopetegui, and helped stabilise them after guiding them to a 14th-placed finish. Ultimately though, it looks like he could be on borrowed time, with rumours that Graham Potter is being sounded out for the job.

He added: “I think he's a decent guy and a decent football manager. He took that job when Lopetegui didn't want to stay there because he didn't like what he was being given.

“He stabilised Wolves last year and the reality is he's struggling. They were brilliant the other day against Fulham. Nobody saw that result coming. but they were poor last night.
