Bruno Lage on 1-1 draw at Elland Road and ‘soft’ Leeds United penalty

Wolverhampton Wanderers were denied their fourth Premier League victory in a row at Elland Road by a stoppage time Rodrigo penalty.

Hwang Hee-Chan’s 10th minute strike looked like it was going to be enough to send the Wanderers home with three points but a 94th minute penalty conceded by Nelson Semedo meant Bruno Lage’s side had to settle for just the one.

Watching from up high, the challenge from Semedo looked clumsy but you’ll see much stronger appeals turned away over the course of this season.

And Lage agreed, though he called both his team’s defending as well as the penalty decision itself ‘soft.’

“We were under control in the game in the last 10 minutes so in the same way we won the last game, today we dropped two points,” he said.

“I think the whole situation was very soft.

“The way we defended the situation. He had the chance to turn and enter between our defenders. I didn’t see the situation on TV but it was very soft for him to go on the floor.

“This is football, I don’t want to discuss the decision.

“What I want is to try and understand. We did well when we were defending. We controlled everything but in the same way it’s very hard to play against them.

“They press, they have a lot of men to press and follow our players like Hwang, Adama and Raul. It wasn’t easy for us to keep the ball for a long time.

“My concern is that we did well whilst defensive. They didn’t have too many chances. We controlled everything, especially the inside game but with the ball, we didn’t have as much possession as we usually do.”
