Arsenal have stepped up their pursuit of Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Pedro Neto and are keen to strike a deal before the transfer window closes on September 1.

According to The Athletic, Neto is the Gunners’ ‘priority’ transfer target and discussions have been ongoing between both parties for the better part of a month.

Wolves have no plans to sell Neto who has five-years left on his current contract at Molineux and if they were to, it would take a significant fee to prize him away from the West Midlands.

A move could also hinge on the potential departure of Nicolas Pepe but that is something that is looking increasingly like.

Discussions are ongoing between Arsenal and French club Nice over a loan move for Pepe and if that deal is done, it would give the Gunners the green light to pursue their man.

The Athletic state that a deal won’t be easy due to the North London side not being able to spend excessively, however, they are extremely keen to get a transfer done and may well break the bank if it comes to that.
