The Guimaraes-born star missed a chunk of football last season and was out from the start of October to mid-March with a muscle injury according to TransferMarkt. In his first season in Valencia, he had even assists and two goals, playing 44 times, and that reportedly attracted the interest of Spanish giants La Liga.
Before joining Valencia, he was with Vitória de Guimaraes, and played 90 times for their first team after graduating from their development team, which also plays in the Portuguese league structure. He is yet to make an appearance for the Portugal senior team, but he has been capped 15 times for their under-21s and has captained them.
Almedia was most recently in England after playing against Leeds United in a pre-season friendly. The Championship side defeated the La Liga outfit 2-1, ahead of their season opener with Portsmouth at Elland Road next weekend. Valencia's pre-season continues with a game against Eintracht Frankfurt, before their campaign begins against Barcelona on Saturday, August 17.
