Wolverhampton Wanderers kick off their Premier League campaign this weekend away to Jesse Marsch’s Leeds United and as things stand, will be doing so without a recognised senior striker on their books.
First-choice forward Raul Jimenez picked up an injury towards the end of pre-season and second in line Fabio Silva was loaned out to Belgian giants Anderlecht, leaving Bruno Lage with no choice but to try and it square pegs in round holes.
The good news is, the injury to Jimenez is only expected to keep him out of action for around a month, however, a month can prove a long time in football.
There’s no denying that even with the Mexican forward fit that Wolves are short up the top end of the pitch and it’s quite amazing to think they allowed Silva to be loaned out without an imminent replacement.
With that said, there still is time to rectify the problem with just under four-weeks left of the transfer window.
Wolves are currently being linked with a number of strikers from around Europe but if they aren’t willing to splash the cash, there are plenty of free agents still out there that could provide a short-term fix.
Not all would go down a treat with fans but the options are there, should they wish.
