‘Important point’ - Cesar Peixoto explains his one frustration after Wolves’ Wrexham draw

The Wolves boss admitted he was ‘angry and upset’ to only come away with a point.

Cesar Peixoto believes Wolves did enough to deserve all three points against Wrexham but admitted they were missing one crucial ingredient.

The Wolves boss felt his side were the better team throughout, but they could not find the winning goal as they missed the chance to climb to the top of the Championship.

Adam Armstrong’s opener was cancelled out almost immediately, before Wolves pushed for a winner in the second half but were unable to break through.

“I think we had a good game. We deserved the win and were the better team,” Peixoto told the Express & Star.

“We scored and did the most difficult part to open up the opposing team. We needed to maintain this after the goal to have more opportunities to play with the ball, because they were going to press higher, and for us that is better.

“But I thought we controlled the game. We had more possession and managed the pressure well. We created a lot of chances, attacked the space, created between the lines, had more shots, more set pieces, and I think we deserved the three points.

“I am angry and upset that we didn’t win, but it is an important point.”

The draw ended Wolves’ winning run but extended their unbeaten streak to six matches heading into the international break.

Peixoto acknowledged that breaking down a stubborn Wrexham defence proved difficult, with the hosts sitting deep and making life uncomfortable for his side.

“We tried, but it is difficult when you put 11 players behind the ball, with a lot of physicality. We tried to manage one side, the other side, we shot outside the box.

“If you are lucky in these moments inside of the box, I think we deserved the win, the players had a good game and did not let Wrexham do anything in the second half. But we didn’t score.

“The key thing missing in this game is scoring the second goal and winning the game. Because I thought over the 90 minutes we had a good game.”
