West Bromwich Albion return to Sky Bet Championship action on Saturday afternoon as they take on Millwall in a huge six-pointer at The Hawthorns. The Baggies return from the international break just five points outside the play-off spots, with Millwall themselves the club occupying sixth place.

Carlos Corberan’s side will be eager to make use of their game in hand and they are refreshed following the two-week break to competitive action. The time off has enabled a number of injured players to step up their recoveries and some could return as soon as this weekend.

It could be a huge dilemma for Corberan as to who to select between the sticks, as Alex Palmer may finally be back in the matchday squad after a fairly lengthy spell on the sidelines. The goalkeeper suffered serious ankle and knee problems in training seven weeks ago but is now ready to be involved again.

Palmer may not get back into the starting XI easily, however, as 21-year-old Josh Griffiths has stepped up massively in his place. David Button was the man to take the spot at first but Corberan decided to opt for Griffiths after a couple of games and he has been quite the revelation. It will be interesting to see who starts.

Meanwhile, there is good news for Kyle Bartley, as the experienced defender has progressed and should be fine to feature from the start of April. Karlan Grant, who has been sidelined with a quad issue for a while, has a similar fate to Bartley, although his return date is likely toward the end of the month rather than the beginning.

Elsewhere, versatile forward Matt Phillips will miss the rest of the campaign following surgery on his quadricep. Fellow wide man Grady Diangana has damaged a ligament in his foot and will also be out for the remainder of 2022/23. Centre back Kean Bryan has probably played his last game for Albion, as his contract expires before he comes back from a serious ACL injury.

Millwall injury news ahead of West Brom clash

Gary Rowett could welcome back Billy Mitchell and Tyler Burey this weekend as both players are back in training. Mitchell (ankle) has been out since the 1-0 loss to Coventry City in February, whereas Burey (hip) was sidelined during the 2-0 FA Cup defeat to Sheffield United in January.

Mason Bennett (ankle) is also coming back into the fold, though he will have only had a day or two of training by the time the West Brom game comes around. Barnsley loanee Callum Styles (quad) is making progress but the clash at The Hawthorns is too soon, whereas Aidomo Emakhu will be out for the rest of the season with a hamstring issue.

Ruled out: Grant, Phillips, Diangana, Bryan (WBA); Styles, Emakhu (MIL).

Doubts: Bartley (WBA); Mitchell, Burey, Bennett (MIL).
