Carlos Corberan ignores statement signing but starts £2m ‘resolution’ - West Brom predicted XI vs Blackburn

West Bromwich Albion are likely to adjust their lineup as they take on Blackburn Rovers in the Championship on Wednesday night.

Carlos Corberan’s men will be keen to bounce back against Blackburn following four Championship matches without a win.

West Brom gave up a lead in stoppage time at the weekend, drawing 1-1 away at Oxford United to continue their underwhelming run of form. Before that, Albion drew 0-0 with Millwall and lost their clashes with Middlesbrough and Sheffield Wednesday.

Away from home once again this midweek, the Baggies face a tough challenge to stay in the Championship top six as Blackburn are fellow play-off contenders. John Eustace’s side have claimed the same amount of points as West Brom so far (18) and sit in sixth, below merely by the goal difference metric.

Rovers were victorious in their most recent outing, too, as they narrowly beat Swansea City by one goal to nil. Blackburn will be confident they can cause an upset against West Brom, especially as they are hosting this fixture at Ewood Park.

Corberan will be tempted to make some changes to his starting team this Wednesday, especially as the games are beginning to come thick and fast. With that in mind, here’s the Albion lineup we reckon will take on Rovers.

West Brom predicted XI vs Blackburn

GK - Alex Palmer: The goalkeeper has started the new season strongly, picking up where he left off last term. Palmer has five clean sheets so far in 2024/25.

RB - Darnell Furlong: Locked in at right-back, Furlong is one of the first names on the team sheet. Nobody is challenging him for this slot at the moment.

CB - Semi Ajayi: The Nigerian has started every league game so far. Mason Holgate will be knocking on the door at some stage but it’s Ajayi’s place to lose.

CB - Kyle Bartley: A provider of experience and leadership in defence, Bartley has been donning the captain’s armband when Jed Wallace hasn’t been in the team.

LB - Torbjorn Heggem: Summer signing Heggem has been superb at left-back in what has been a rather auxiliary role for the centre-half.

CM - Uros Racic: The Sassuolo loanee, valued at around £2 million by the Italian club, has proved he can be the resolution to West Brom’s poor creative output.

CM - Alex Mowatt: One of Corberan’s personal favourites, Mowatt has been the preferred choice in the number eight role for several months.

RW - Tom Fellows: The England Under-21 international hasn’t scored or assisted a goal in three games but he remains one of Albion’s most impactful players.

LW - Karlan Grant: Given a fresh start this season, Grant has thrown everything into every game and he netted his second goal of the campaign last time out.

CAM - John Swift: The playmaker has been benched in the last two fixtures but could come back in as Grady Diangana has failed to impress.

ST - Josh Maja: With seven goals in 10 games, Maja has started the new campaign in outstanding fashion. He’s now a guaranteed starter when fit.
