West Brom linked with move for 27-year-old as Eric Ramsay eyes January signings

West Brom’s new boss Eric Ramsay will be looking to put his own stamp on the squad

West Brom have turned to Eric Ramsay recently as their replacement for Ryan Mason. He left his position as head coach of Minnesota United in MLS to return to England. The 34-year-old has worked as a coach at Manchester United in the past.

The Baggies lost 3-2 at home to promotion chasing Middlesbrough in his first game in charge. They fought back from 2-0 down against Boro after goals by Isaac Price and Jed Wallace. However, they conceded a late goal to lose the match in the end which was frustrating.

West Brom linked with goalkeeper Sebastian Jurado

West Brom are said to be interested in FC Juarez goalkeeper Sebastian Jurado, according to Fox Sports in Mexico. They are being linked with a move for the stopper before the end of the January transfer window. Fellow Championship side QPR have also been mentioned as potential suitors.

Jurado, 28, is a former Mexico youth international. He has been on the books of his current club since joining them back in 2024 on an initial loan deal that was later made permanent. The ‘keeper was loaned out to Pachuca recently to get some game time under his belt.

The Veracruz-born man played for Cruz Azul from 2020 to 2024. He made 43 appearances in all competitions for the Liga MX outfit before Juarez came calling for his services. His long-term future is now up in the air amid talk of a potential exit this winter.

What could West Brom see in Sebastian Jurado?

West Brom could see Jurado as someone to boost their goalkeeping department. If he joined, he would give them more competition and depth between the sticks. The Baggies currently have Josh Griffiths and Joe Wildsmith as their two senior options and have rotated between the pair over recent times.

Ramsay will be looking to put his own stamp on his newly inherited ranks over the coming weeks. He has until the deadline on Monday 2nd February to complete any bits of business. The Welshman may also look to let some players head out the exit door too to help free up space and funds to pave the way for possible reinforcements.

Speaking after their loss to Middlesbrough, he said: “I’m really disappointed and frustrated but I can see the good in the second half. I can see the good in the performance and the way forward from a constructive perspective. It’s very difficult to leave without that feeling of disappointment. We showed character and a real sense of personality to claw back from two goals down and we connected with the crowd.

“To concede the third goal was disappointing and in the way that we did. They’re a top team around the top of the box, but they are quite predictable that they’ll score goals when you give them the space that we did – that was disappointing. We want to see the best of the first half combined with the best of the second. In the first, we were very difficult to play against, were compact and we made life tough for a very good team on the ball.”
