West Brom have been in Championship action this weekend

West Brom are sat in 6th place in the Championship table as they eye promotion to the Premier League. They are inside the play-offs along with Burnley, Sunderland and Coventry City.

The Baggies turned to Tony Mowbray earlier this winter. He was brought back to The Hawthorns following Carlos Corberan’s exit to Valencia.

Next up is a home clash against QPR next weekend. They then face a tricky away trip to Turf Moor to face Burnley.

West Brom draw with Leeds United

West Brom drew 1-1 away at Leeds United last time out. They now have 11 fixtures left to play this season.

Junior Firpo scored the opener for the hosts inside the first 10 minutes. The Baggies then fought back to earn a decent point with Darnell Furlong getting their goal against the league leaders.

Speaking afterwards, Mowbray said: “I don’t want to get too carried away. It was a game we spoke about all week about showing our credentials. This is West Bromwich Albion, we should be able to come to Leeds United and be able to more than compete and try and win.

“They’re having a great season and they’re a very, very well-coached team, but I thought we grew into the game after being a bit too tentative in the first 20 minutes or so.

“I thought we were good in the second part of the first half and we found the spaces that we were looking for. We played forward and got around their box a lot.

“We had a great chance to score through John Swift before they got their goal, but as they game went on, I felt as though we threw enough punches to threaten their goal. I thought we were really competitive, and so we should be.”

He added: “There are so many strong men in our team and it’s important to have that. I thought all the players were really good today. We came and did what I hoped we would do despite losing a goal early on.

“It’s a brilliant ball into the box and it’s amazing how often the left-back gets into the box – he scored last week against Sheffield United. It was frustrating to lose that goal but we managed to fight back. Overall, we more than deserved a point.”
