West Brom suffer transfer blow in pursuit of Swansea City star

West Brom have been eyeing a swoop for Swansea City’s Jamie Paterson.

Jamie Paterson joined the Swans on a free transfer during the summer after he was released by former side Bristol City.

The midfielder moved to Wales on a 12-month deal and has been spectacular for Russell Martin’s side this season, scoring eight goals and assisting another four.

According to Mail Online, Paterson’s form has been attracting a number of clubs including West Brom.

The Baggies have been considering a swoop for the 29-year-old as his short-term contract with Swansea comes to an end next summer, however they have been dealt a blow by the Swans.

It has been revealed that Paterson’s contract with the Welsh club includes a trigger for extension, meaning that if the midfielder reaches 25 appearances for Swansea then they are able to extend his stay.

Wales Online have claimed that Russell Martin’s side could be set to trigger the extension before January, with Paterson having already made 21 appearances.

West Brom are keen to bolster their attacking options and were also linked with a move for Toulouse striker Rhys Healey recently.

Karlan Grant is currently the Baggies’ top scorer with nine goals but is the only player in the squad to have netted over three so far this season.

Valerien Ismael’s side scored only two goals in November and the Frenchman will be disappointed to miss out on the former Bristol City midfielder.
