West Bromwich Albion’s play-off rivals are making significant new additions to their squads on transfer deadline day, with Middlesbrough closing in on a loan move for former Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho.
Boro, who are level on points with the Baggies in the Championship table following a disappointing 2-1 defeat to relegation-threatened Plymouth Argyle on Saturday, are hoping to sign the Nigerian striker from current club Sevilla until the end of the season.

West Brom’s rivals make deadline day moves
Middlesbrough aren’t alone in making big moves on deadline day – Norwich City, who are two points further adrift of West Brom and Boro, have also completed the signing of Brighton & Hove Albion defender Ruairi McConville in a deal worth up to £3.75m including add-ons.
The Northern Ireland international has signed a five-and-a-half year deal with the Canaries, who strengthened their case for a play-off spot with a win against Watford over the weekend.
Elsewhere, Sunderland are reportedly set to sign Liverpool starlet Jayden Danns on a loan deal until the end of the season as the Black Cats, who are currently fourth, look to bolster their attacking options.

What moves will West Brom make on deadline day?
As their promotion rivals strengthen, West Brom had been expected to have a fairly quiet deadline day ahead of them, but news that first-choice goalkeeper Alex Palmer is set to sign for Ipswich Town has changed the landscape.
The Baggies are now looking for a new goalkeeper, but could recall 23-year-old shot stopper Josh Griffiths from his loan spell at Bristol Rovers to fill the void if a replacement for Palmer can’t be found at short notice.
Elsewhere, Ollie Bostock and Harry Whitwell are among the young players who could leave on a loan basis as the Baggies look to find first-team minutes for players on the fringes of the first-team squad. BirminghamWorld understands that West Brom could still be in the market for an attacking player, but the loan signing of Tottenham Hotspur’s Will Lankshear has made that a less pressing priority.

The Baggies, who have now won just one of their last six matches following the surprise defeat at Home Park, are back in action on Saturday when they face Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship at the Hawthorns.
