Rotation galore as Carlos Corberan names teenage debutant - West Brom predicted XI vs Fleetwood

Carlos Corberan is likely to rotate heavily at Highbury Stadium, prioritising fitness building over progression in the early stages of cup competitions.

Fleetwood, ninth in Sky Bet League Two after their 1-0 opening day win over Grimsby Town on Saturday, will be keen to impress against big-name opposition. Albion must respect the Fishermen whilst also focusing on their own needs.

The Baggies started the new Championship campaign superbly despite a worrying pre-season, dispatching Queens Park Rangers by three goals to one. Josh Maja brushed off his rustiness to net a hat-trick at Loftus Road, while the likes of Gianluca Frabrotta and Lewis Dobbin made their debuts.

Tuesday’s trip to Fleetwood is a great opportunity for Corberan to make further judgements of his new signings, perhaps trying them out in an array of positions. It’s also a perfect chance to build fitness for those who haven’t had a proper pre-season, while keeping fringe players happy with game time.

With all of that in mind, here’s the West Brom XI we predict will be named at Highbury - with a huge 10 changes from the win at QPR.

West Brom predicted lineup vs Fleetwood Town

GK - Joe Wildsmith

Wildsmith, last season’s League One Golden Glove winner, is likely to be rotated in for the cup fixtures. Alex Palmer will be rather immovable in the Championship.

RB - Deago Nelson

The 18-year-old could be in line for his senior competitive debut after impressing throughout pre-season. Ethan Ingram’s departure has opened a door.

CB - Caleb Taylor

Taylor was loaned out to Bolton Wanderers last campaign but didn’t gain regular game time. Minutes in the cup could earn another temporary move away.

CB - Paddy McNair

The loan signing is yet to feature for Albion as he’s lacking in fitness, but what better chance to build him up than in a cup fixture?

LB - Gianluca Frabotta

Frabotta was subbed on for a brief cameo on the weekend. The Italian will be keen to challenge for the starting left-back spot eventually.

CM - Ousmane Diakite

The Malian doesn’t seem quite ready to play regularly in the Championship, so any minutes in other competitions will be a great help.

CM - Jayson Molumby

Molumby didn’t play the full 90 at QPR, so he’s one of the likelier players to stay in the XI. The Irishman is still getting back to full sharpness after a long injury lay-off.

RW - Reyes Cleary

The 20-year-old has been scoring goals for fun for several seasons at youth level but has only played six senior matches. A great chance here to impress.

LW - Lewis Dobbin

Dobbin, still settling in after recently joining on loan from Aston Villa, came off the bench at Loftus Road and could be set for his first start.

CAM - Fenton Heard

The academy prospect has been in and around the first-team setup for the last couple of months and deserves a competitive run-out.

ST - Devante Cole

Cole didn’t have a pre-season, so Corberan will want to build his minutes steadily. An hour or so here should do more good than harm.
