West Bromwich Albion play host to Championship leaders Sheffield United at The Hawthorns this Sunday afternoon.

The Baggies will be keen to cause an upset and move back into the English second-tier play-off positions with a victory against the high-flying Blades.

Carlos Corberan’s side are unbeaten in their last 10 league matches, so that bodes well, but nine of those outings have ended with draws. West Brom have become the Championship’s specialists in sharing points, leaving a bittersweet taste in the mouths of supporters.

It’s of course great to be so resilient to avoid defeat each week but it’s become rather stale seeing Albion unable to convert these draws into wins. It’s unlikely the fortunes will change this weekend given Sheffield United have also only lost twice this season, but it’s worth a try.

Corberan has experimented a little with his starting lineups over recent weeks, switching between a back three and back four while rotating his midfielders and defenders. We reckon that could continue this weekend, with a new role for Callum Styles and an element of rotation.

West Brom predicted XI vs Sheffield United

GK - Alex Palmer: The goalkeeper has started the new season strongly, keeping clean sheets in exactly half of this season’s league fixtures (9/18).

RB - Darnell Furlong: Furlong is one of the first names on the team sheet. Sunderland away two weeks ago was his only ever game missed under Corberan.

CB - Mason Holgate: The Everton loanee has been in excellent form and was arguably Albion’s best player at Preston. He deserves to continue his run in the XI.

CB - Kyle Bartley: The experienced defender is fully up to speed having played all 90 minutes last time out. Bartley is an important presence at the back.

LB - Torbjorn Heggem: Comfortable at left-back or centre-back, Heggem has settled into this Albion side superbly and he’s provided great versatility.

CM - Jayson Molumby: In and out of the team in competition with Uros Racic, we’re backing Molumby to return to the starting lineup this weekend.

CM - Alex Mowatt: Corberan’s preferred choice in the number eight role, Mowatt hasn’t set the world alight recently but he’s still one of Albion’s best options.

RM - Tom Fellows: The England Under-21 international is without doubt one of the Baggies’ most dangerous players. He simply has to start whenever fit.

LM - Callum Styles: A more advanced role could suit Styles as he can be a real threat when stretching the pitch. It’s worth a go.

ST - Karlan Grant: Often one of West Brom’s best performers and hardest-working players, Grant has profited from moving central in recent outings.

ST - Josh Maja: West Brom’s top scorer with 10 this term, Maja has stepped up for the team. He just needs his attacking counterparts to chip in with more goals.
