West Brom themselves have had to navigate through tricky periods under ownerships, but thankfully under Shilen Patel, we're close to a sound footing. The ground has gone through some ground improvements such as safe standing for supporters, but the unique atmosphere is something that opposition supporters praise Pompey for.
West Brom are winless in their last four fixtures against Portsmouth, and you have to go back to September 25, 2001, for the last time the Baggies had success at Fratton Park.
Robert Prosinecki opened the scoring for the home side with a penalty inside six minutes, but West Brom got back on level terms through Neil Clement, and then Scott Dobie put West Brom in front with there being no response from the hosts.

Hoult made over 200 appearances for West Brom from 2001 to 2007. He had a loan at Nottingham Forest, before departing permanently for Stoke City, but Notts County would act as the final club where he would be there first choice.
The 51-year-old finished his playing career where he started his managerial career, and that was with non-league outfit Thringstone Miners Welfare. He runs his own goalkeeper coaching sessions now, called RH Goalkeeping.
Des Lyttle
The Wolverhampton-born defender joined West Brom initially on loan from Watford, before joining them permanently. He was at the club from 2000 to 2003, and made 89 appearances in total. He was allowed to depart for Northampton Town in 2003, before winding down his career in the non-league with Forest Green Rovers, Worcester City, and Tamworth. According to the Swansea City official club website, Lyttle is now director of football at Thomas Telford School in Shropshire.
Warren Cummings
Cummings had two separate loan spells at West Brom, having joined from Chelsea. He is most known for his time at AFC Bournemouth, where he spent nine years of his career. The 43-year-old these days is manager of Turriff United, a team in the Highland Leagues.

The Icelandic defender joined West Brom from Stoke City in 1999. He spent five years as a player at the Hawthorns, before returning to the club he began his career at, Akureyri. He would go on to manage Akureyri twice in his managerial career.
Tony Butler
Butler was at West Brom from 2000 to 2002, and after the club won promotion, he was loaned to Bristol City, where he'd sign a permanent deal. The 51-year-old would go on to play for Blackpool, and for Forest Green Rovers.
Neil Clement
Clement spent the majority of his playing career at West Brom, having joined them initially on loan from Chelsea. Clement played more than 250 times from 2000 to 2010, but had to retire through injury.
Michael Appleton
Appleton finished his career at the Hawthorns, having joined from Preston North End in 2001. A knee injury forced him to retire and he took up various roles within the coaching setup at the Hawthorns.

Hide AdHe was last the manager of Charlton Athletic, where he was relieved of his duties in January 2024. He was linked with the loan manager's job at Manchester United.
Andy Johnson
Bristol-born Johnson was a West Brom player from 2001 to 2006. He finished playing in 2009, where he played for King's Lynn. It was revealed in 2017 that the 50-year-old was now working as an electrician.
Derek McInnes
The 53-year-old joined West Brom from Rangers in 2000, and he went on to make 100 appearances for the Baggies. McInnes in 2003 returned to Scotland to play for Dundee United, and then had a brief stint at Millwall before signing for St Johnstone. McInnes is currently the manager of Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock.
Scott Dobie
The 45-year-old signed for West Brom in 2001 from Carlisle United, and went on to make more than 100 appearances for the club after joining in a deal worth £200,000. He left for Millwall in 2004, and then played for Nottingham Forest, Carlisle United, St Johnstone, Bradford City and lastly York City. He hung up his boots in 2012, and went on to become a police officer.

Taylor was at West Brom for a second spell from 2000 to 2003, having joined from Bolton Wanderers. He departed for Cheltenham Town in 2003, and also played for Tamworth, and Kidderminster Harriers before retiring.
Adam Chambers (subbed on for Bob Taylor, 82)
Sandwell-born Chambers began his career at West Brom and was there from 2000 to 2005. He had a loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday before signing for Kidderminster Harriers in 2005. The 43-year-old would later go on to play for Leyton Orient and then Walsall, before retiring in 2019.
