West Brom player ratings vs Coventry: Two 8s and several 7.5s as Celtic man stars in Championship six-pointer

West Bromwich Albion staved off a late fightback to clinch their Championship six-pointer against fellow promotion hopeful Coventry City.
Goals from Mikey Johnston and Grady Diangana put the Baggies in a comfortable position at the break but disaster struck midway through the second half. Cedric Kipre - who had been solid up until that point - clumsily fouled Kasey Palmer inside the area to give away a penalty.

Hide AdHaji Wright buried the resulting spot-kick to set up a nervy final 20 minutes - but Albion held firm. Much of their success came from out wide, with Johnston and Tom Fellows a pain for the SKy Blues all evening.
Relief emanated around the Hawthorns at the full-time whistle as West Brom tightened their grip on the play-off places. This was a game they could not afford to lose as Coventry would have moved to within two points of Carlos Corberan's men.
As it turned out, Albion ensured a seven-point cushion over seventh place to continue their solid run of form. Here are your BirminghamWorld player ratings for the win over Coventry.
Alex Palmer - 6.5
Had little to do. Got nowhere near the pen.
Darnell Furlong 6
A quiet game for him. Offered little support to Fellows but coped with his winger well.

Headed balls away for fun until the penalty. Deducted slightly for that reckless lunge that allowed Coventry back in.
Erik Pieters - 7
Had his work cut out final 20 minutes. Solid.
Conor Townsend - 7.5
A real bright spark down the left, linking up with Johnston. Albion looked worse when he went off.
Okay Yokuslu - 7.5
Cool, calm and collected. The most underrated player in the league?
Alex Mowatt - 7
Forging a classy midfield partnership with Kokuslu in midfield. Has a wand of a left foot.

A nuisance all night. Got the assist for the second and his vicious deliveries deserved another.
Grady Diangana - 7.5
Looks good in the No.10 role. Took the goal that turned out to be the winner.
Mikey Johnston - 8
Coventry breathed a sigh of relief when he went off. What a signing. MOTM despite lasting 64 minutes.
Good movement for Diangana’s goal. Faded after that. Not much of a goal threat.
