A late Anthony Musaba strike ended West Brom’s unbeaten start to the Championship season

Championship promotion hopefuls West Bromwich Albion suffered their first defeat of the 2024/25 season in an action-packed contest away to Sheffield Wednesday.

The Baggies got off to a dreadful start at Hillsborough when Darnell Furlong inadvertently turned the ball into his own goal after a strike from Marvin Johnson. West Brom’s uphill task became even bigger after 23 minutes when Josh Windass doubled the Owls with a looping header over goalkeeper Alex Palmer.

Carlos Corberan’s side showed tremendous spirit to fight their way back into the game in the second half. The division’s top scorer Josh Maja made it seven in seven to reduce the deficit by one and second half substitute Alex Mowatt looked to have secured a hard-fought point with an 84th minute strike.

However, ultimately on this occasion it wasn’t to be for the Baggies as Dutch forward Anthony Musaba came off the bench to tap in his first goal of the season.

Below, Birmingham World has rounded up all of the West Brom player ratings, courtesy of info from WhoScored.com.
