West Bromwich Albion manager Valerien Ismael has reiterated the club’s current stance that players must leave before there is even talk of adding fresh faces this month.

The Baggies signed Daryl Dike for big money from MLS side Orlando City at the beginning of the window and that looks to be the start and end of the business unless they can ship off some of the current squad.

“Everything is on outgoings,” explained the manager.

“It could be the typical case, that it’s a last minute transfer, that it’s in the last few minutes that something happens.

“We will see. I think maybe next week things will take more speed.

“We will see. But are working behind the scenes to make sure first we can get some outgoings before we can get some incoming.”

Ismael appeared frustrated when discussing his options ahead of the match with Peterborough United but one can only assume that’s more down to the difficulty of getting rid of some of the “deadwood” rather than being afforded no budget to work with.

Robert Snodgrass, Kenneth Zohore and Jordan Hugill are three straight off of the bat that are currently eating up wages despite all seemingly now banished from the first team.

The one that has the most likelihood of any movement would be the latter, although nothing appears to have altered as of yet.

Hugill has been rumoured to have been returning to parent club Norwich City since day one of the transfer window but nothing has yet developed.

“No update,” the manager said when asked about the striker.

When pushed on the matter and whether or not Hugill is still actually with Albion, Ismael added that he expects more clarity by this time next week.

“I have spoken with him, we have spoken openly about the situation and how it’s his job with his agent and with West Brom to clear the situation,” he explained.

“From my point of view, there is nothing at the moment.

“But I expect from next week, things will speed up in the process.”
