West Brom manager Steve Bruce has given a concerning update about the status of defender Kyle Bartley following the 2-0 defeat to Sheffield United.

Prior to the game on Wednesday evening, Bruce had confirmed that Bartley would be missing through illness but his condition has since worsened to an extent where he has had to be admitted to hospital.

Whilst understandably the manager couldn’t go into too much detail, he did reveal that the centre-back is currently undergoing thorough checks in an attempt to find out the cause of his current issues.

“Bartley unfortunately at the minute is in hospital,” Bruce explained.

“We’re hoping it’s obviously nothing too serious but he’s got some sort of bug - not covid, we’ve checked for that.

“But he’s got some sort of virus which, we’ll see, we’ll see how he is.

“It’s a concern, of course, but he’s in the right place.

“There was concern enough to get him checked over thoroughly because he had a huge temperature spike yesterday which wasn’t great.”

Everyone at BirminghamWorld would like to pass on our best wishes to the Baggies defender. Get well soon, Kyle.
