West Brom loan flop 'poised' for move to Championship promotion contenders

West Brom signed the player last summer but he struggled to make an impact at The Hawthorns

West Brom lost 3-2 at home to Middlesbrough last time out at The Hawthorns. Isaac Price and Jed Wallace got their goals against Boro but they weren’t able to get anything from the game. They are back in action on Tuesday night at home to Norwich City.

Eric Ramsay has recently been appointed as their new head coach. He left Minnesota United to take on a new challenge in the Midlands. The Baggies are currently sat in 19th place in the Championship table after 27 fixtures and are four points above the drop zone.

West Brom loan flop Toby Collyer set for new move

West Brom loan flop Toby Collyer is ‘poised’ for a move to Hull City from Manchester United, as per BBC Sport. The 22-year-old is set to link up with the Tigers on a temporary basis. He spent the first half of this season with the Baggies before returning to Old Trafford earlier this month.

Collyer, who is a former England youth international, was brought in by former boss Ryan Mason back in August. He went on to make 12 appearances for the Midlands outfit in all competitions. However, he struggled for starts and didn’t make the impact he would have hoped to.

The Worthing-born man rose up through the academy at Brighton and Hove Albion before Manchester United came calling in 2022. He has since played 13 games for the Premier League giants altogether. Collyer will now be eager to get as much game time as possible at the MKM Stadium.

Why didn’t Toby Collyer’s move to West Brom work out?

West Brom landed Collyer to add more competition and depth. He never really settled in though and had some injury issues as well. Sometimes loans don’t work and it wasn’t meant to be for him with the Baggies.

After joining them, he said at the time: “I spoke with the gaffer Ryan Mason and I got a really good first impression from him. Albion seems like the right place and the right environment for me and I’m hoping to play as much as possible. This is a great opportunity for me to help the team and take my game to the next level, which I’m really excited about.”

Meanwhile, sporting director Andrew Nestor said: "Toby is a dynamic midfielder who we rate highly and believe that his strengths will complement our already strong midfield options. He is an ideal central midfielder for our playing model with his physical attributes, progressive play and passing ability, and has the capability to make a real impression this season."

Collyer will join a Hull side who are eyeing promotion from the second tier. They have emerged as serious contenders under the guidance of Sergej Jakirovic against the odds. The Tigers only stayed up on goal difference on the final day of last term.

However, they have been transformed by Jakirovic and are sat in the play-offs along with Ipswich Town, Millwall and Preston North End. They beat Southampton 2-1 on Saturday afternoon. Kyle Joseph and Charlie Hughes got their goals.
